DASHAIN : 6 Things you are unaware but happens only during Dashain Festival.

DASHAIN : Things you are unaware but happens only during Dashain Festival.

Dashain is not only the longest festival but also the most anticipated one among all the festivals of Nepal. It is celebrated by all Nepalese from various castes and tribes with joy and excitment. The fifteen days of celebration occurs during the bright lunar fortnight ending on the day of the full moon. Dashain commemorates a great victory of the gods over the wicked demons. One of the victory stories told is the Ramayan, where the lord Ram after a big struggle slaughtered Ravana, the fiendish king of demons.
In preparation for Dashain every home is cleansed and beautifully decorated, painted as an invitation to the mother goddess, so that she may visit and bless the house with good fortune.
The first nine days of Dashain are called Nawa Ratri when tantric rites are conducted.
The first day of Dashain is called Ghatasthapana, which literally means pot establishing. On this day the kalash, (holy water vessel) symbolising goddess Durga often with her image embossed on the side is placed in the prayer room. The room where the kalash is established is called 'Dashain Ghar'.
As days passes by regular rituals are observed till the seventh day. The seventh day is called 'Fulpati'. In fulpati, the royal kalash filled with holy water, banana stalks, jamara and sugar cane tied with red cloth is carried by Brahmans on a decorated palanquin under a gold tipped and embroidered umbrella.
The eighth day is called the Maha Asthami: The fervour of worship and sacrifice to Durga and Kali increases.
The ninth day is called Nawami: Temples of mother goddess are filled with people from dawn till dusk. Animals mostly black buffaloes are slaughtered to honour Durga the goddess of victory and might and to seek her blessing.
The tenth day is the Dashami: On this day we take tika and jamara from our elders and receive their blessing. We visit our elders in their home and get tika from them while our younger ones come to our home to receive blessing from us.
Beside all that here are the Things you are unaware but happens only during Dashain Festival..
#1 FLYING KITES
You know Dashain is right around the corner when you start seeing kites in the sky. But did you know that its motif was to remind the gods to not send in the rains anymore? Someone should have tried that when we had to break out our canoes to get through Jamal in the downpours.
#2 THE SLAUGHTER
Animal sacrifices are the norm during this festive season and is believed to commemorate the mythical bloody battles between the “divine” and “demonic” powers. The slaughters symbolize the sacrificing of our “animal qualities”. Although it’s highly debated as to whether the senseless killings snub out the animal qualities or enhance them.
#3 RAW FACTS
With all that slaughtering, the meat has to go somewhere. It is estimated that the consumption of meat during Dashain — Saptami to Dashami— increases by seven times with a daily average intake of 28 gram to 212 gram per person. Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts need around 50,000 to 60,000 goats during Dashain.
The Dashain favorites: mutton covers 34 per cent of total meat demand of the capital and the remaining is fulfilled with buffalo, chicken and pork meat.
#4 CRIME RATES
It is a common trend for crime rates to drop during Dashain season. According to the police, social crime in the Capital during last year’s Dashain festival decreased by a whopping 52.38 percent. Let’s hope the tendency continues and we see a further decline in criminal activity.
#5 BON VOYAGE!
It is estimated that almost 50% of the population in the Kathmandu valley leaves for different parts of the country to celebrate the festival. It’s no surprise the streets are so empty during Dashain.
#6 WHERE DID THAT SWING COME FROM?
Like the kites and tika, the tall bamboo swings are synonymous with the festival of Dashain. It is believed to be good luck and a requisite to get both your feet off the ground during Dashain, and most people get on the almighty swings.
The swings that seem to pop out of nowhere are actually set up by the Armed Police Force of Nepal for your convenience. But do take care when you get on one of these structures because some would argue that they are not the safest bets when it comes to safe swings.

7 Common Job Interview Questions

Wouldn't it be great if you knew exactly what an interviewer would be asking you in your next interview? While there is no way of predicting exactly what you will be asked, it's important to be prepared to respond effectively to the interview questions that employers typically ask at job interviews.

Despite the fact that, the type of interview and the questions asked depends on the type of job and required position, there are few questions that are asked in almost every job interview. These questions are related to general information required for performing any type of job. Having said that, we will now introduce you to some of the most frequently asked job interview questions. Here we go;

Tell me about Yourself

"Tell me something about yourself" is probably the most commonly asked question in any interview. For this question, you may be tempted to tell about your personal life stories and all. But, keep in mind that it's not about you telling your life story and quite frankly, the interviewer just isn't interested. Unless asked to do so, stick to your education, career and current situation.

Let us give you an example: I’m Mr. Hari Sapkota, currently working as at ABC Company. I am from Kalanki, Kathmandu (Permanent Address) .I completed my Master's Degree in Science from Tribhuwan University in Physics course with 3.79 CGPA. My key skills are XYZ and so on.

Why did you Leave Your Previous Job?

The general rule here is that you should always be leaving to move toward a better opportunity. You should never position it as fleeing from a bad opportunity.

Let me give you an example: I am very thankful to my previous company. I learned many things from company as fresher, but I am looking for a better opportunity, for accepting more challenging work and learn new things which can help me gain experience.

Why Should we Hire You?

This is an important question that you will need to answer carefully. It is your chance to stand out and draw attention to your skills, especially those that haven't already been addressed. Saying "because I need a job" or "I'm really good" just won't provide the answers the interviewer is looking for. Explain why you make a good employee, why you are a good fit for the job and the company and what you can offer. Highlight your skills and achievements.

For example, It is a great privilege for anyone to work in a reputed company like XYZ Company (your company). When I read about the job vacancy, I found my skills matching with the given position. It is a platform where I can showcase my technical skill and contribute my best to the organization. I have 2 years of experience in the required department. If you are a fresher, you can answer as …Being fresher I have a lot of theoretical knowledge but I can work hard work for my organization .Being punctual and sincere, I can finish the work given to me on time and put my best for the growth of the organization.

What do You Know About this Organization?

Do your homework before you go to any interview. You should know about the company or business you're going to work for. Has this company been in the news lately? Who are the people in the company you should know about? Do the background work, it will make you stand out as someone who comes prepared, and is genuinely interested in the company and the job.

Let us give you an example: I have done research into your organization so as to ensure that what type of organization I would be working for. I found that you're clearly a progressive organization. With over 25% of profit this year and has the reputation of excellent customer service.

Are you willing to Travel or Relocate if Necessary?

This is something you need to have very clear in your mind prior to the meeting. There is no point in saying yes just to get the job, if the real answer is actually no. Just be honest as this can save you problems arising in the future. If you are looking to relocate, then you might increase your chance to get the job.

Let me give you an example: Relocation is not an issue for me. I am ready to relocate at any place throughout this city. As an employee our focus should be on work always irrespective of location. It always provides me an opportunity to learn about the people of different place. You can answer in this way too: "I'd prefer not move right now, but you never know what tomorrow may bring, however if I don't get opportunity here I may relocate myself.

Where do you See Yourself in Five Years?

This is another tricky question you may face in your job interview .What the interviewer is actually asking is if you are looking for a position or a long-term career .The safest way to answer this is to say that you see yourself excelling in the position you are applying, and drop the company’s name as a catalyst for your ambition.

Let me give you an example: “I am currently exploring my career in communication, but I do know it will involve this industry, so this job is a great fit. I admire this company because of the growth opportunity it provides and I see myself continuing to develop my career here.”

Do you have Any Questions for Us?

This one tends to come up every time. Have some questions prepared. This will show you have done some research and are eager to know and learn as much as possible. You probably don't want to ask more than three or four questions. Try and use questions that focus on you becoming an asset to the company. A generic question might be, "how soon can I start if I get the job?" "What is my role and position in the company?"

These questions are frequently asked on any type of job interview. You chances of success highly depends on how you answer to each one of them. Before attending a job interview, do enough research on interview tips and guidelines too. Give careful attention to these factors and practice on improving them. Good Luck!

Steps to create impressive CV or Resume

Steps to write CV or Resume
To be a smart job seeker you must know your resume (CV). It plays a key part of getting a new job. That's why you take time to learn how to write a resume so you have the best one possible.
This may be your first time writing a resume; or maybe you're updating an old one for the hard time.  Either way, you'll want to use this guide to be sure you're doing all you can to have the best resume possible.
Following are the ten steps to write an effective resume or CV
Step 1: Choose From 3 Formats
You can follow specifically following three choices to write a CV or Resume: Reverse-Chronological, Functional, and Combination. Each format has its own advantages and disadvantages. Below, are listed some which you will find best for you.
I. Reverse-Chronological
This is the more traditional format and is what you are most likely to come across. Chronological format is flexible and can be used for applicants with any level of experience.
II. Functional
It is more suitable for those with an expert level of experience. Where chronological places emphasis on career progression, it heavily emphasizes on the applicant’s abilities and skills Qualifications.
III. Combination
As you can probably guess the combination format uses both chronological and functional formats. Like the functional format, it focuses on specific qualifications, yet the body of the document contains professional experience similar to chronological format. This format is generally reserved for those with a great deal of experience in a particular industry.
Step 2: The Order of Information
Before delving into what information you should add, it’s important to remember that the information you include will largely depend on the format you choose. With that being said, below is a general guide to what information you should add and the order in which you should add it.
I. Contact Information
The contact information section is pretty self-explanatory. This section does not require a label (Contact Information or Contact Details). When listing your contact details you should follow this order:
  • Name (largest font on page, middle initial is optional)
  • Mailing Address
  • Telephone Number (Check that you have an appropriate voicemail message)
  • Email Address (makes sure it’s appropriate, don’t use your sexypanda45@gmail.com account.)
  • Link to online portfolio (optional, ensure it is relevant to the position)
  • LinkedIn Profile

Also, be careful not to accidentally add the contact information in the header as applicant tracking systems may not be able to read it.
II. Choose a Resume Introduction
Like formats, job seekers have 3 choices for their resume introduction: a qualifications summary, career objective, and professional profile. The goal of all three are to gain the attention of an employer by highlighting your skills and experience that will help their company. However, the method through which each introduction achieves this goal differs. See below:
Qualifications Summary
With regards to format, the qualifications summary is a bullet point list (ranging from 4 to 6 points) of your most outstanding career achievements. Avoid using generic statements and try to list your skills in a way reflects your unique voice.
Career Objective
A resume objective, also referred to as a career objective, is a 2-3 sentence statement that provides an overview of your skills and experience. This resume introduction is best for entry-level candidates.
Professional Profile
The professional profile is a combination of both the career objective and qualifications summary. It is also the most flexible of the three styles as it can be formatted as short paragraph of bullet-point list.
Finally, when deciding what skills to add to either of the two, try to target skills specific to the job you are applying for. Don’t just simply copy and paste skills right out of the job description, but instead try to use words common in the industry.
III. Professional Experience
The section is the core of your resume, where you are tasked with proving the skills you have listed in the qualifications summary or career objective. When it comes to labeling this section some use “Relevant Experience,” or “Work Experience” as an alternative to “Professional Experience.”
Remember to list your work experiences in reverse chronological order and only list experience that is relevant to the job you are applying for. For each company create a heading including the company’s name, city & state, your title, and the dates of employment (month and year). If you are still currently working at a company, you can simply write “month, year-Present” for the employment dates.
A general rule is that each experience have around 3-5 bullet points of your main duties and achievements.
IV. Education
Having a solid education section helps to display the foundation of your knowledge and expertise. Depending on your professional experience, you may want to consider switching the order of the professional experience and education sections.
For instance, college or high school students that lack seasoned professional experience benefit from emphasizing their education by placing it before the professional experience section. In addition, if you possess a wealth of professional experience then it is appropriate to keep this section short and sweet.
Here are the main points to include in your education section:
  • The names of your university, community college, or technical school(Don’t include high school unless you did not attend college)
  • Location of the schools (city, state)
  • Date of graduation (month, year)
  • Degree(s)
  • GPA (only include if your GPA is above 3.0, round up to the first decimal place , and use this format: GPA: 3.5/4.0)

V. Additional Sections
By now you’ve already added the nuts and bolts to your resume. Below are a few sections you may want to consider adding to help strengthen it.
Certifications/Licenses
The certifications section is the most important of the other sections you can include, but adding a certifications or licenses section is largely dependent on your industry. For example, the nursing field has strict licensing requirements while the customer service sector does not.
If your industry requires certifications the hiring manager will be intent on finding them in your application. Make sure to thoroughly research your industry to find any relevant certifications or licenses you may have missed.
Publications
Adding publications sections is pertinent for graduate students who have published articles that are relevant to the job they are applying to. List your articles in reverse chronological order by publishing date. Choose the referencing style that is appropriate to your discipline. It also acceptable to add works that has yet to be published. You may label these as “Works in Progress” or “Submitted for Publication.” Here is an example of how a publications section should be formatted.
Awards/Honors/Activities
This section adds another layer of customization to your resume by providing evidence of your abilities. Adding relevant awards and activities helps you stand out from your competition. If this section becomes too lengthy, feel free to break them up into smaller sections. Here are some items to consider adding:
  • Grants
  • Academic Honors
  • Scholarships
  • Volunteer positions
  • Professional Affiliations
.
Technical Skills
Some careers, such as those in the IT or Engineering fields, require specialized knowledge and hands-on skills. Within the IT industry, a software manager’s responsibilities will differ from company to company. A technical skills section is helpful in showcasing your knowledge of specific systems.
To prevent this section from taking up too much space, try breaking up this section into categories and list your skills within each. For example:
  • Software: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, and Oracle
  • Programming Languages: Excel at HTML, C++, and Python
Additional Skills
Including an additional skills section may be worth considering. An additional skills section is a short and concise list of skills relevant to your industry. This section is similar a technical skills, but is often used for industries that do not specifically require advanced skills. Check out the yellow-highlighted additional skills section in the image to your right.
What to include:
  • Fluency in a second language
  • Knowledge of computer applications (i.e. Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery
What not to include:
  • Generic statements (Customer Service Skills)
  • Run of the mill skills
  • Unrelated skills
Even if you have already added skills to your career objective or qualifications summary, it never hurts to add more abilities. For instance, someone like an IT manager who works with a wide array of programs and techniques will in turn have a wide range of skills to fill both a qualifications summary and additional skills section.
Step 3: How to Style your Resume
Whew! So the hard part is over. You have all your content typed up and you are feeling confident about getting that interview. Now for the finishing touches. It’s time to give it some personality.
I. # of Pages
This is the most argued point of resume writing. Some professionals vigorously discourage applicants from going over one page, while others argue that in some instances it is acceptable. The bottom line is this: if you have information that is highly relevant to the position you are applying for then go ahead and add an extra page. However, if you are just adding fluff for the sake of adding pages, then your resume will suffer.
II. Font and Sizing Dos and Don’ts
Font style and size is largely dependent on your preference. You can never be sure what the hiring manager prefers so you have to go with gut. However there are some Dos and Don’ts when it comes to choosing your font and sizes.
Dos
  • Choose easy-to-read fonts
  • Use the same font throughout
  • Change sizes in descending order for your name, headers, and bullet points
  • Choose a font that fits with the text sizes you’ve chosen
Don’ts
  • Don’t choose small sizes to fit everything on one page
  • Don’t pick wacky fonts (for heaven’s sake not Wing Dings!)
  • Don’t have one uniform text size throughout
  • Don’t go below 9pt
  • Don’t spend too much time on choosing a font
For sizing, many resumes follow a 24, 12, 10 format. This means that the name is 24pt, the body headers are 12pt, and the bullet points are 10pt.
IV. Margins
Margins are the first thing a potential employer will notice about your resume, so it’s important that they are appropriately set. One inch margins are the safe bet for applicants that lack experience. If you have a wealth of experience that you are trying to fit to one page then it is acceptable to reduce to the margins. Be cautious when reducing the margins. If they are too small, your pages will look overcrowded. To be safe it is recommended not to go below .5.”

Tips for Better Salary Negotiation

Tips for Better Salary Negotiation

We all go through the salary negotiation  process sooner or later. It has always been difficult for us to what to do for better salary negotiation. Follow below tips to sweeten the deal.

1. Be Persuasive
. Think of the process to convince your boss which might benefit the organization as well as pay you more but don’t force him, that may damage your working relationship.
2. Aim High, and Be Realistic
There exist a strong correlation between people's aspirations and the results they achieve in negotiation. At the same time, you want to suggest ideas to which your boss can realistically say yes.
3. Begin with the Right Tone
Let your boss know you listen to his view and try to understand his views. At the same time, you expect your boss to do the same for you so you work together to address issues. But avoid using ultimatums, threats and other coercive behavior.
4. Make your Interests Simple
Your compensation should satisfy wide range of needs, not just salary. Make sure you have thought about other points that value to you as well like: profit sharing, a bonus, greater work responsibilities, a quicker promotion schedule, increased vacation or flexible hours and other incentives.
5. Predict your Boss's Interests
Be clever enough to understand the needs and concern of your boss and be persuasive so he says Yes, to your ideas that are important to him.
6. Create Several Options
Brainstorming is the most effective way to find ideas that satisfy everyone's interests. It works best when you separate it from commitment first create possible solutions, and then decide among them.
7. Stay focused on Objective criteria
It is far easier to persuade someone to agree with your proposal if he sees how that proposal is firmly grounded on objective criteria, as firms are willing to pay people who like experience or what others in the company make.
8. Think through Your Alternatives
You need to have a backup plan in case you fail to persuade your boss to say yes. Prepare a specific action plan so you know what you'll do if you have to walk away from the table.
9. Be thoughtful to achieve Your Goals
This is the only aspect of your negotiations you can completely control. To take advantage of all of the above advice, you have to invest a significant amount of your time and energy.
10. Learning by reviewing
The only way you can really improve your ability to negotiate is to explicitly learn from your experiences. After you finish negotiating, think on what you did that worked well and what you might want to do differently next time.

Education ministry set to announce vacancy for 28,000 permanent teachers

Ministry of Education is preparing to announce vacancy for a total of 28,000 permanent teachers.
The positions would be filled through internal competition between temporary teachers and appointment of freshers.
Speaking at an orientation training on School Sector Development Plan and Education Act for media persons organised jointly by MoE, UNICEF, Education Journalists Network and Educational Pages, Hari Lamsal, spokesperson, MoE, said the ministry was preparing to announce four types of vacancies.
As per the eighth amendment to the Education Act, the first vacancy will be for temporary teachers appointed before January 4, 1993; second for temporary teachers hired between January 5, 1993 and August 5, 2004; and third for temporary teachers who were appointed between August 6, 2004 and September 19, 2015.
“All temporary teachers eligible for first category vacancy will get permanent status,” he said, adding, “However, although temporary, lien and women teachers would be allowed to apply for second category vacancy, not all of them would be given permanent status as the number of vacant seats would be limited.”
He further said that in the third category 49 per cent of seats have been allocated for temporary teachers and 51 per cent for freshers.
All these vacancies will be announced at once, said Lamsal, adding, “Temporary teachers who don’t want to compete for permanent posts could opt for golden handshake,” he added.
The Education Act (eighth amendment) has given temporary teachers the option to either participate in internal competition or opt for golden handshake on the basis of years of teaching experience.
A temporary teacher must have completed 20 years of service to be eligible for golden handshake.
As per the amended act, temporary teachers completing 5 to 10 years of service will be entitled to half-month’s salary for each year while teachers with 10 to 15 years of work experience will be granted an amount equal to one month salary for each year served.
Similarly, teachers completing more than 15 years of experience will be provided an amount equal to one- and-a-half-month’s salary per year.
“Management of teachers is a matter of political commitment. Therefore, we are going to begin the process after the new education minister gets appointed,” he stated.
Around two months ago, School Teachers Management Section under the Department of Education had started collecting details of temporary teachers working across the country.
Dev Kumari Guragain, acting director general, DoE, said, “We are still collecting details of temporary teachers,” adding, “We have recently sent SMS alert to all the district education offices and regional education directorates to furnish details of temporary teachers at the earliest.”
